The name of Realicó comes from the Araucanian words “Rali”, which means plate and “Có”, which means water: plate of water. It is located in the northeast of La Pampa Province, and it is the head of the homonymous Department.
It constitutes a strategic point between the north and the south, and the west and the east of our Country, since it is located in a circulation junction, where National Highway Nº 35 and Nº 188 cross each other, and it is located within the area of the Bioceanic Corridor.
The region has several characteristics in common, among which it should be mentioned the common origin of its population, which is constituted by immigrants, the existence of similar natural, environmental and climate resources, the educational and sanitary conditions, the levels of primary and industrial production and the rail, road and energy infrastructures. On the other hand, the strategic position it has within the system of regional links, together with the activities that at present take place in the micro region, contribute to define the profile of the urban city core as the best center of services.
At present said activities are related to the farming production, casual tourism, commercial exchange and the amenities that the urban core offers. As regards the urban infrastructure of Realicó, it should be stressed the role of schools and health centers. The one-hundred-year old city of Toay is the departmental capital and the rail head of two important railroad systems, and treasures a historical background that is highly appreciated by its inhabitants. Just 10 km from the pampean capital, it is linked to Santa Rosa by the beauty and fast Perón Avenue. Country and weekend houses follow one after the other along rolling lands of sand banks whose prodigious water are excellent for the health. For this reason, according to history, more than a century ago Toay was the ideal place to establish the capital of the territory, though the title was eventually conferred on Santa Rosa. Victorica, the gate of the pampean far west
Victorica is the gate to the far pampean west and leads to localities like Santa Isabel and Algarrobo del Águila, which maintain intact the traditional shades of the provincial criollo heart. It is the concentrative market of winter pastures cattle more important of "patagonia". Every year in Victorica, the Parque Los Pisaderos enlivens and celebrates the Provincial Farming Feast, a multitudinous performance that reminds the most antique city of La Pampa, deeply related to heroic war fights of aboriginal times and the military conquest. In 1985, the nearby spots called “Leuvucó” and “Salinas Grandes” were declared “historical places” because the last groups of Ranqueles and Vorogas aborigines had settled there. The “Monumento a los Ranqueles” (a monument to the Ranqueles) was built in 1999 in Colonia Leuvucó, 25 km northward.
The urban shape covers all the necessary services -hotels- for the traveler, complement of hunting areas and tourist "estancias". Victorica is the ideal stage to tour the desolated western places, full of history, tradition and the cultural past that amazes with its shades. Next to the town, the “Paseo Ecológico Pichi Mapú”, with animals autochthonous and exotic, proposes an educational visit to this fauna reserve.
